Grant Dacre Charles Haines
Born into the Haines family November 9, 1987 in Chilliwack B.C. First born to Grant and Colleen followed by sisters Shaylee and Shemara, first grandchild to Charles and Theresa Cooke as well as second grandchild to Alberta Hasell. Dacre grew up in Flood B.C. a booming suburb of Hope.
He was a chubby thing at first and when he smiled you couldn't stop from smiling as well. As he grew so did his sense of humour. From the very start Dacre was very much a creator of habit and he has a lot of little rituals from his nights at both grandparents and his visits to the chocolate bar store. He was Nana's odd little duckie and Grandma's pride and joy. They spent many hours walking around town smelling flowers, playing in the park, going for lunch and entertaining whoever he was with. He was a bundle of joy. Life with Dacre was very special. Such a happy little guy bringing joy to our world.
Dacre was so very proud of his sisters Shaylee and Shemara. We have many hours of joy watching them all play and fight growing together as a family. He brought much joy to our lives.
Both parents worked so we had help with raising Dacre. Nana, Grandma, Grandpa and Eva were all a big part of that.
Dacre's first day at school was very difficult.....for Colleen, but she made it through.
Dac loved school and was a model student, mostly. He loved school and reading was a huge part of his life. Thanks to his many teachers for their part in that. Throughout his life Dacre collected and read many, many books, he had his own book case with the shelves lined three deep, but no way would he get rid of any. But again Dacre being a bit of a strange duck, the first book that he ever bought for himself was a copy of "James Armoury" "The Authority" on the world's weaponry, and after that it was tanks, planes and guns. For the longest time for a while there he could watch a movie and tell you all what kind of funs they were using, pretty focused there.
Dacre was a great kid and as he grew so did his love for knowledge and again so did his appetite, later for that.
He was quite shy...until he got to know you that is. That was when you got to know the real Dac. Into high school Dacre was still the model student, mostly.....there was that one time however. When Dad got home Colleen said your son was sent home from school today, for fighting, gentle Dacre fighting what the heck, of course the first question Dad asks is the wrong one, Did you win? Woops I meant bad boy that's very wrong. Turns out about 6 very close friends thought it would be a great idea to bring boxing gloves to school and since that was such a great idea then lets cross the road so were not on the school grounds, where they then proceeded to knock the crap out of each other. Of course they all got called to the office and sent home, a real learning experience.
Dacre loved the fight game. He loved to box and he loved Jiu-Jitsu which he started more seriously at 14 years old. We had a private little club in Yarrow Tuesday and Thursday. The guys there took Dake under their wings. When they fought Big Al would say "Come on Dacre, make me your bitch." He never quit and he could take a beating, long haired, skinny guy, it was kind of fun, but as they say, payback is a bitch. Dac started boxing, he went for about 6 months and what a change. No more just knocking the kid around. He would stand right in there with those big guys and trade. It didn't matter if he got hit as long as he made you pay. It was great watching him go from being almost defenceless to becoming pound for pound one of the toughest kids I've ever known. It sounds like his friends shared a lot of that with impromptu boxing and wrestling matches everywhere and anywhere.
He worked at Rolly's Restaurant for his first job as a dishwasher the host, pretty shy at first but did a great job, went on to graduate in 2005. His first job out of school was selling vacuums, tried to talk him out of it thought no way, way too shy, but in no time he proved us wrong and actually did very well. He moved on from there to Nestle Waters where he worked for over 3 years. He made some very good friends there.
He would try anything from Para sailing to diving off cliffs, he liked to travel and do new things. He would try any kind of food from alligator to frogs legs, it just didn't matter thought ribs were his favourite, of course don't forget dessert from fried ice cream to his favourite, Mom's best in the world pumpkin pie. The boy could eat.
Dacre was a very kind and compassionate person. He was the kind of guy who once on vacation at Uncle Bob's in Ontario we passed a turtle on the road, about 2km later he was so worried about it getting run over we had to go back so he could rescue it. What a guy.
As far as friends go Dacre cared deeply for his friends and he was a true friend. Some of his closest friends were school buddies some were from later experiences but all were good friends, it's hard to know them all but Jason, Sheldon, Tommy, Johnny, Chantal, Toya, Roman and Dani were very good school buddies to Dac. Later from work Robin, James, Chuck, Jason and Darrin were very good friends along with a special lady friend Sherry who made him very happy.
We'd like to thank you all for that, we know we've missed thanking some of you and we apologize for that. Special thanks to all the aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who attended. Uncle Bob and Aunt Joyce came all the way from Ontario for us.
We are very proud of Dacre he had a lot of friends, everyone that took time to know him loved him and he loved them.
We would like to thank you all for being part of his life.
