Pat Huber, affectionately known as "Red" meant so much to so many people. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved us love and protected us and guided us through life's challenges. The life he led was a simple, humble one yet never lacking in an abundance of genuine love and kindness. Despite his own personal tragedy, his faith, unceasing hope, ability to overcome adversity and make people laugh was an inspiration to us all.
Over the years, he gave us more memories of great times that have helped us all as we struggle to make sense of his loss. He loved to sing...in the US Steel Chorus, the St. Teresa's choir and, of course, in his own kitchen. He was truly amazing on the golf course, wowing many. After he died, his grandson asked to have one of his golf clubs thinking that his game would improve by 10 strokes just by some of the magic that might rub off on his own clubs!
Speaking of magic, he was truly this generation's Irish legend. A red-headed Irishman born on St. Patrick's Day, he always lived up to the challenge...every year better than the next. St. Patty's Day will never be the same again except in heaven. He loved to sit on his back porch with a cold beer and watch his garden grow. Everyone loved his back porch. And his Christmas trees! He had a million friends and lived to make people laugh. Like the story when he tied some of his red tomatoes to the neighbor's struggling tomato plants just so he could delight at watching her joy when she thought she grew them and then laugh so hard when she realized what he'd done.
Mostly, he never took life too seriously and could always laugh at himself. He truly touched everyone he met and certainly left the world a better place. If his life is measured by how much he is missed and by how many, he was amazing.
